Lemurs live in a female-dominated society; males have to wait while the females drink and eat first, and it is the females who get to choose their partner.
Our lemur troop had been living off-display since our South East Asia development started taking shape. They’ve now taken up residence in our former tiger area, a great opportunity for you and your whānau to see them over the next few months.
Their striped tails are used for balance, to help carry their special smell and to make sure they do not lose sight of each other on the forest floor, as ring-tailed lemurs spend more time walking along the ground than other lemur species.
