In the latest of our new series catching up with our keepers during lockdown, we chat with bird keeper Ashleigh about our little penguin colony!
The little penguins at Auckland Zoo are all rescues that recieved care at our on-site Vet Hospital but weren't able to be released back into the wild, due to the injuries they sustained. We're pleased to be able to offer them a great life at The Coast and also educate you on what makes these native birds so unique and incredible.
As Ashleigh explains, since they're not able to hunt or fish for themselves our keepers help with hand-feeding them each day, to make sure they're getting the nutrition they need.
